Sliger SM580 – doprajte si kus mini-ITX luxusu

Sliger nevyrába žiadne tuctovky, ich skrinky nenájdete v klasických obchodoch a na objednávky sa čaká niekedy aj zopár týždňov. Pre EÚ existuje len jeden distribútor lokalizovaný práve na Slovensku - Density. Cieľom tejto Americkej spoločnosti je postaviť čo najmenšie možné skrinky takmer bez kompromisov. So Sliger and Density sa mi podarilo dohodnúť zápôžičku mini ITX skrinky SM580.

Balenie, špecifikácie

Keďže ide o minimalistickú (objemovo) skrinku, celé balenie váži do 3 kilogramov. Keď sa zbavíte kartónu a ochranných vypchávok, dostanete sa na necelých 2.3 kilogramu – celá konštrukcia je zo železa, bočné panely zase z hliníka.

Objem skrinky je presne 15.88 litra a dostanete sem grafické karty o dĺžke až 328mm (aj preto, že má GPU vlastnú „komoru) ale iba vzduchové chladiče o výške 55mm. Príslušenstvo obsahuje skrutky na inštaláciu komponentov, kryty pre uchytenie kábla z PSU a samotný predlžovací kábel od zdroja. 

Na test mi dorazila „základná“ verzia SM580. Píšem základná, pretože u Sliger skriniek si môžete doobjednať napríklad pevnú bočnicu, akrylové sklo (poprípade pre každú stranu skrinky iný typ), iný panel pre I/O vstupy, dvojitý riser pre GPU, riešenie pre kábel od zdroja, horný držiak skrinky, predinštalovaný AiO chladič (240/280mm verzia, s Noctua ventilátormi alebo bez), držiak na disky v hornej časti, držiak na disky alebo ventilátor v spodnej časti...Uff príslušenstva kopec. Nehovoriac o príplatku za bielu farbu. Viac sa dozviete na oficálne stánke Sliger.
Len pre zaujímavosť základná verzia SM580 stojí 269 dolárov (228 eur), najdrahšiu (vrátane AiO chladiča) si dokážete vystavať za 573 dolárov (486 eur)! Pozrime sa teda na najlacnejší variant SM580tky...

Exteriér

Skrinka je dostupná v troch farbách – Obsidian Black, Slate Gray a White. Testovaný kus bol vo farbe Slate Gray... Hlavným znakom najlacnejšieho variantu sú perforované bočnice – to už teraz naznačuje, že skrinka poskytne rovnako aj najlepšie chladenie, či už CPU alebo GPU. Prísun vzduchu bude pre jednotlivé chladiče priamy a spodné ventilátory s teplotami až tak veľa nespravia. Na druhej strane bude aj najväčším magnetom na prah, pretože tu nikde nenájdete ani jeden prachový filter.

Skrinka má len jedno tlačidlo, ktoré je umiestnené presne v strede hornej časti. Na boku skrinky nájdete zase I/O vstupy (USB 3.2, USB-C a audio vstupy pre slúchadlá).

Horná časť skrinky je rovnako perforovaná ako bočnice, tu je však jasné prečo – do SM580 dostanete AiO chladič s radiátorom o veľkosti 280mm (treba však povedať, že nie každý ale o tom viac v nasledujúcej časti). Za príplatok 20 USD ~  17 eur  tu môžete mať držiak. Celkovo ide o malú extra kompaktnú skrinku, ktorá skvelo vyzerá a je perfektne spravená. S akrylovými bočnicami by asi vyzerala o kúsok lepšie.

Interiér

Popísať klasickú skrinku je pomerne jednoduché...popísať Sliger SM580 dá už trochu zabrať resp. až toľko vecí tu na popísanie nie je 😊. Ako som už písal ide o  minimalistickú no maximálne funkčnú skrinku a tomu je podriadená aj vnútorná konštrukcia.
Veľkým plusom skrinky je fakt, že grafická karta je umiestnená cez PCIe Raiser na opačnú strany dosky. To má dve veľké výhody - chladenie GPU je samostatné a nebude nasávať zohriaty vzduch od CPU chladiča a druhou výhodou je, že viete využiť celú dĺžku skrinky pre GPU. Žiaden komponent alebo káble skrinky jej nebudú zavadzať. Bez príplatku za HDD držiak viete do skrinky namontovať dva SSD disky, ktoré sa schovávajú za predným panelom. 

Pri výbere komponentov si treba dať trochu pozor a poriadne si prečítať špecifikácie skrinky. Zdroj sem nainštalujete formátu SFX alebo SFX-L a grafické karty o veľkosti 328mm (3 slotová). Treba počítať s tým, že do skrinky dostanete len 140mm ventilátory – v spodnej aj hornej pozícii. Ak chcete do skrinky dostať 120mm budete potrebovať od Sliger redukciu.
Najväčší pozor si dajte pri výbere chladiča – ak sa rozhodnete pre vzduchové chladiče, musíte sa zmestiť s výškou chladiča do 55mm. Relatívne výkonných chladičov do takejto výšky nie je až tak veľa – našiel som iba 4 chladiče, ktoré stoja za to (Noctua L9, Cryorig C7, Raijintek Zelos, Alpenföhn® Black Ridge ). 
Pri AiO si treba dať extra pozor pri výbere a držať sa toho, čo odporúča samotný výrobca a to je:

• Max.rozmer 328mm x 150mm x 72mm (radiátor s ventilátorom)
• Odporúčané AiO sú ASETEK 680LS, NZXT Kraken X61, X62, or Z63, Cougar Aqua 280, ThermalTake Floe Ring 280

Sliger uvádza na svojej stránke aj AiO chladiče,  ktoré do skrinky dostanete s problémami (veľmi zaujímavý popis). Medzi ne patrí napríklad aj Fractal Design S28+. Musím povedať, že minimálne S28+ by som zaradil do kategórie nekompatibilných. Rada Prisma sem jednoducho nepasuje. Ak by ste zvažovali SM580 možno by som rovno siahol po Asetek 680LS, ktorý Sliger montuje ako jednu z možností za príplatok. Asetek chladičov sa vôbec nemusíte báť, ide o OEM výrobcu viacerých AiO chladičov: Asus ROG, EVGA, Fractal Design, Gigabyte, NZXT, Thermaltake. Ako ma upozornil Density, Asetek AiO u nás kvôli chýbajúcej certifikácii nekúpite. Jediným obchodom v EU je caseking.de

Montáž

Ak si vopred poriadne naštudujete aké komponenty do SM580 pasujú a v akom poradí (manuál) ich treba do skrinky dávať, s inštaláciou problém mať nebudete. Naozaj odporúčam tentokrát prejsť si návod – uľahčí vám to dosť času. Čo možno prekvapí, treba začať ventilátormi v spodnej časti – ako som spomenul do SM580 dostanete len 140mm ventilátory, následne nainštalujte dosku a až potom vložte  do skrinky zdroj. Potom už len ostáva pozapájať všetky káble, PCI raiser a doinštalovať grafickú kartu.

Pri prvom pokuse o build som chcel do skrinky dostať spomínaný „problémový“ AiO Fractal Design S28+ zo série Prisma, ale tu som zlyhal nakoľko je radiátor o pár milimetrov väčší. Držiak o ktorý sa priskrutkuje radiátor má správnu veľkosť aj montážne diery, problém bol pri vkladaní do skrinky. 
Nakoniec som musel použiť chladič Noctua L9, ktorý chladil procesor AMD 3400G. ten má výšku len 37mm, takže sa do SM580 zmestil bezproblémovo. Komponenty, ktoré boli použité v builde:

Samotné chladenie je vďaka perforovaným bočniciam skvelé. Procesor 3400G dosiahol maximálne teploty 73 stupňov, čo je na malý chladič ako je Noctua L9 skvelý výsledok. Keď som bočnicu zakryl, teploty vystúpili na 76 stupňov Celzia. Grafická karta bola na tom veľmi podobne. Takže „základná“ skrinka poskytne určite najlepšie chladenie, avšak čistiť skrinku bude treba pomerne často. Väčšina potenciálnych záujemcov určite siahne po plných bočniciach – vtedy počítajte s potrebou dvoch 140mm ventilátorov, ktoré by mali ísť do spodnej časti aby dokázali vytlačiť všetok nahromadený vzduch von.

Záver

Sliger SM580 nie je pre každého, nejde o tuctovku, ktorú nájdete u každého, ani ju nekúpite v bežnom obchode. Pri výbere komponentov treba myslieť trochu vopred. Skrinka má svoje obmedzenia hlavne čo sa týka vzduchových chladičov. Ak sa chystáte postaviť výkonnú zostavu, neostane vám nič iné ako siahnuť po AiO chladiči. Tu však zbytočne nevymýšlajtea vyberte si AiO, ktorý odporúča výrobca. Ak si chcete skrinku trochu vylepšiť, musíte siahnuť trochu viac do peňaženky. Výsledná cena sa môže vyšplhať až na závratných 486 eur! Už aj základná verzia dá zabrať vašej peňaženke - musíte si pripraviť približne 228 eur. Na druhej strane dostanete za svoje peniaze kus luxusu, skvelé spracovanie, chladenie a skrinku ktorá vyzerá jednoducho skvelo.

English version

Sliger is not known for making any ordinary products, their cases can ´t be found in classic stores and orders can take as long as a few weeks. The only distributor for European Union is actually located in Slovakia – it is Density. The goal of this American company is to build the smallest cases possible without making any compromises. I managed to arrange loan of mini ITX case SM850 with Sliger and Density.

Package, specification

Since we are talking about a minimalistic case (in terms of volume), the whole package weights no more than 3 kilograms. Once you get rid of the cardboard and protective padding, you ´ll get to approximately 2.3 kilograms – the whole construction is made of iron, side panels of aluminum.

The volume of the case is exactly 15.88 liters and you can fit in graphic cards with length of to 328mm (thanks to having its own ´´chamber´´) but air coolers only with height up to 55mm. The accessory includes screws for components installation, covers for holding cable from PSU and the extension cord from the PSU.

I received a “basic“ SM580 version for the testing. By basic, I mean that Sliger offers  option to order extra components, for example solid side panel, acrylic glass (different type for every side of the case if necessary), different panel for I/O inputs, double riser for GPU, solution for power cord, upper case holder, preinstalled AiO cooler (240/280mm version, with or without Noctua fans), holder for discs in upper part, holder for discs or fan in the lower parts...Well, that’s a lot of accessory. Not to mention additional cost for the white color. For more information, please go to Sliger´s official page. Just so you know, the basic SM580 version costs 269 dollars (228 euros), the most expensive one (including AiO cooler) can be built up for 573 dollars (486 euros)! Let ´s look on the cheapest version of SM580 then... 
 

Exterior

The case is available in three color variations – Obsidian Black, Slate Gray and White. The tested piece was in Slate Gray color...The main sign of the cheapest variant are the perforated side panels – which already implicates, that the case will also offer the best cooling system, whether CPU or GPU. The air supply for the single coolers will be direct and the lower fans are not going to do much to the temperatures. On the other hand, be prepared to deal with a lot of dust, because you won´t find any dust filter here.

The case has only one button, which is located exactly in the middle of the upper part. On the side of the case you will find I/O inputs (USB 3.2, USB-C and audio inputs for headphones).

The upper part of the case is also perforated the same way as side panels, but here it is actually clear why – you can get AiO cooler with 280mm radiator in the SM580 (it´s necessary to mention that not every single one but we´ll talk about that in the next part). There is a holder available for additional 20 USD~ 17. Overall, it´s a small extra compact case, which looks great and is perfectly constructed. Acrylic side boards would probably make it look even better.

Interior

Classic case is relatively easy to describe... but to describe Sliger SM580 can be kind of hard, or more precisely, there isn´t a lot to describe 😊 As I have written before,  we are talking about minimalistic but maximally functional case and its adapted inner construction. A big advantage of this case is the fact that the graphic card is put through PCIe Raiser on the opposite side of the board. That brings two big advantages – GPU cooling is independent and won ´t suck the warm air from CPU cooler, and the second advantage is that you can use the whole length of the case for the GPU. No component or case cables will take up its space. Without additional holder for HDD you can install two SSD discs into the case, which are hidden behind the front panel.

You should be a little careful while choosing the components and properly read the case specifications. The power supply should be installed in the SFX or SFX-L format and the graphic cards in size of 328mm (3 slots). You have to be aware that the case can fit only 140mm fans – in both lower and upper position. If you want to use 120mm fan, you need reduction from Sliger. You must be the most careful while choosing the right cooler – if you decide for air coolers, the height of your cooler can ´t be bigger than 55mm. But there are not many relatively efficient coolers in this height range – I have found only four coolers worth mentioning (Noctua L9, Crvorig C7, Raijintek Zelos, Alpenföhn® Black Ridge). 
You need to be extra careful while choosing AiO and stick solely to manufacturer´s recommendations:
On their page, Sliger also mentions the AiO coolers, which can cause trouble while getting into the case (very interesting description). One of them is for example even Fractal Design S28+. I must say that I would place at least S28+ in the category of incompatible. The Prisma line just simply does not belong here. If you are considering SM580, I would probably choose Asetek 680LS, which Sliger installs as one of the options for an additional charge. You should not worry about Asetek coolers, as it is an OEM manufacturer of several AiO coolers: Asus ROG, EVGA, Fractal Design, Gigybyte, NZXT, Thermaltake. As Density told me, you can't buy Asetek normaly in Europe due to missing certificates, only shop where you can but one is caseking.de

Installation

If you make sure beforehand that you know what components fit into the SM580 and in what order (manual) they should be put into the case, you will not have any trouble with the installation. This time I really recommend reading the manual – it will save you a lot of time. What may surprise you is that you have to start with the fans in the lower part – as I mentioned before, SM580 can fit only 140mm fans – then install the motherboard and after that insert the PSU into the SM580. After that the only thing left is to plug in all the cables, PCI raiser, and install the graphic card.

In the first build I tried to fit the mentioned “problematic“ AiO Fractal Design S28+ from the Prisma series into the case, but I failed since the radiator is few millimeters bigger. The holder, to which the radiator is screwed to, was the right size, same as the installation holes, the problem was with inserting into the SM580. In the end, I had to use the Noctua L9 cooler, which cooled the processor AMD 3400G, which is only 37mm high so there was no problem with fitting it in.

The cooling by itself is great thanks to the perforated side boards. The 3400G processor achieved the maximal temperatures of 73 degrees, which is a great success for a cooler this small. After covering up the sideboard, temperatures rose to 76 Celsius degrees. The graphic card was on similar level.  Therefore this “basic” case will definitely offer the best cooling, but you will have to clean the case fairly often. Most of the interested people will definitely go for full side boards – in that case you have to count with two 140mm fans, which should go to the lower part so that they could push all of the built-up air out.

Conclusion

Sliger SM580 is not meant for everybody, it is not any ordinar product owned by anybody, you will not even buy it in classic stores. You have to think a little ahead while choosing the components. The case has its limits mostly in air cooling area. If you are planning to build a powerful setup, there is nothing left for you than going for an AiO cooler. Here you do not have to think about it that much, just choose the AiO recommended by the manufacturer. If you want to upgrade the case a little, you must be prepared to spend a little more money. The final price can go to breathtaking 486 euros! On the other hand, for your money you will get a luxurious piece, great execution, cooling, and case that looks simply magnificent.
